Veryan WebView is a web-based Work Related Learning
placement management system. Managing agencies (EBP's, Trident's etc)
still use WorkPlace but teachers and students view/book the available
placements over the internet.
There are as many ways of organising work-experience
as there are agencies organising it so, in keeping with our philosophy
of providing users with solutions to meet their needs we can provide WebView
to meet any local requirement. Here are some expamples of how WebView
can be used
1. Centralised booking of any job
on your database
In this model all suitable jobs are put on the web and the students
allowed to make up to six selections. Students can print job descriptions
and forms for parents to sign agreeing to their child's choices. Teachers
can monitor progress and selections. These choices are subsequently
downloaded to WorkPlace and students allocated in the usual way. Agreement
paperwork is centrally produced and sent to the school/students/employers.
This is the model used by Jersey Trident

2. Local (school) booking of any
job on your database, central H&S checking
In this model all suitable jobs are exported to WebView from WorkPlace
and the students can browse and print job descriptions but not select
jobs. When the student has decided which job he/she would like, he/she
informs the teacher. The teacher then contacts the provider and if the
provider gives his/her assent the teacher 'books' the job on WebView.
The central agency downloads all the bookings on a daily or other frequent
basis and imports them as placements into WorkPlace. When the import
is complete a report showing what has been added/changed is produced.
Using the report the central agency can quickly check the H&S status
of each provider and amend the placement status. When this task is complete
the placements are exported from WorkPlace and used to update WebView.
The teachers are then able to run reports in WebView to see the status
of each 'booking'. Teachers are also able to produce parental/employer
agreement forms and other useful paperwork directly from WebView. This
model is used by Somerset EBP
This model can also be used by those agencies who
do not need to keep student records on their databases but have to give
H&S approval to jobs 'booked' by teachers. This is possible by means
of a 'confirmation' page where the placement status can be modified
directly in the web database, no uploading/downloading of bookings is
required.

3. Centralised booking of pre-allocated
jobs
This model is a combination of the first two with some extra features
as well. The central agency pre-allocates the jobs to school batches
and then exports them to WebView. This means that different schools
will see different selections of jobs. The students view the jobs and
make choices as in model 1. Teachers then 'book' the choices , N.B.
teachers do not contact the provider as in model 2, they simply indicate
which of the choices they think is most suitable for the student. The
central agency downloads the 'bookings' on a daily basis for the purpose
of contacting the provider and agreeing the placement, sorting H&S
etc. Once the central agency has reached a successful or negative conclusion
about the 'booking' it updates the status on WorkPlace and WebView.
The teachers can print out all status changes on a daily basis and rebook
students who have been unsuccessful at their first choice.

4. Local (school) automated
booking of pre-agreed jobs
In this model, being developed for Barnet Trident, the central agency
export jobs which have already been H&S checked and have agreed to
take students from the school(s) concerned. Students are able to make
selections as in models 1 and 3 and teachers are able to automatically
allocate students to jobs in the same way our schools program WorkView
does already, thus relieving the teachers of the burden of placing by
hand and of any suspicion of favouritism etc. Paperwork production and
mail-merging facilities will also be available.
